Verbal Memory Test
This test measures your verbal memory. Words appear on the screen one at a time. For each word you have two choices:
- Seen before: this word has already appeared in this run
- New: you are seeing this word for the first time
Every correct answer earns a point. After three mistakes the test ends.
The first word is always new, so click "New" to start.

What verbal memory is
This test measures recognition memory: the ability to tell that you have encountered a word before, rather than recalling it from nothing.
Recognition is different from recall. Telling that a word is familiar (recognition) is easier than producing it from a blank (recall). That is why multiple-choice questions feel easier than fill-in-the-blank ones.
A score of 40 is the median. A very high score (80+) points to strong verbal memory.
